A smaller community.

While this blog is mainly about a relatively large community, we had a vision the other day about how it would look when there were only 4 or 5 people living together in a densely populated area, thus on a small plot of land.

So we've decided to make it all in one single building, with a large public living room and kitchen, and 5 private appartments. This all would be relatively cheap to accomplish, when building with concrete and doing most things ourselves.

We have enclosed a floor lay-out as we have quickly drawn up in the spur of the moment. If you have any suggestions or remarks, please leave them in a comment.

  1. simply amazing idea, but i think a double-Decker beds will spare a lot of space

  2. That's a good point. I was thinking about everybody decorating their own private appartment themselves, choosing what beds they want, tub or shower, etc so they can choose what they spend. The only thing the group of 4/5 would pay for collectively would be the community rooms and the building itself of course.

  3. I know people have done this before (not personally) and one that comes to mind is Epicurus, an Ancient Greek philosopher. He did this kind of thing before with friends. They built a villa just for themselves and became self-sustaining with their own livestock and farm.

His principles are a must follow for rich and happy lives.

Look up and watch "Philosophy: A Guide to Happiness - Epicurus on Happiness", you won't be disappointed mate I promise you.

    1. Thanks, I will surely look it up! Epicurus was brought to my attention by Bertrand Russels History of Western Philosophy and his views instantly took to me! "We cannot live pleasantly without living wisely and nobly and righteously."

  4. Nice idea for the future, but this appears to be the direction architecture is going; uniform buildings designed to optimize space. I lived in a flat designed like this for a bit and I felt like a rabbit in a animal testing centre. Th regular nature of the spaces can feel boring and uninspiring; however, this could be the future within the current capitalist system we live in where money is God and everything else must suffer.
